Giorgos Vavoulas (b. 1980, Athens) is a Greek composer and educator working in the field of contemporary music. His work explores the relationship between sound, gesture, and form, combining a strong sense of organic structure with clear, gesture-based writing and a tendency toward dense textures, alongside a particular interest in the interaction between instrumental and vocal expression.

He studied Composition (M.A.) at the Ionian University and Music Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He also completed advanced studies in music theory and piano at the National Conservatory of Athens, as well as vocal studies at the Nikos Skalkottas Conservatory. His compositional approach has been shaped through his studies with Nicolas Tzortzis and his participation in masterclasses with composers such as Dimitra Trypani, Yannis Aggelakis, Minas Borboudakis, Franck Bedrossian, Annesley Black, Dimitris Papageorgiou, and Orestis Toufexis.

His works have been performed by ensembles including Ergon Ensemble, Dèdalo Ensemble, Àktapha Ensemble, the Hellenic Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Orchestra of the Greek National Opera, and the Athens OTE Choir. He has collaborated with conductors and performers such as Vittorio Parisi, Nikolas Vassiliou, Christos Kechris, Ioanna Vrakatseli, Vagelis Maniatis, Sokratis Sinopoulos, Katerina Konstantourou, Kostas Bouropoulos and others.

In 2025, he participated in the Composition Workshops Cycle of  the Greek National Opera, where his works SIGMA DIA EPSILON and INTERSTITIUM were premiered.

In 2021, he was awarded Second Prize in the composition competition “1821: Greek Revolution and Poetry in Music”, and in 2019 he was a finalist in the International Composition Competition “…a Camillo Togni”.

He teaches piano and advanced music theory, while continuing his compositional and artistic activity.
